why do people always say "no offense" right before they're about to offend you?

no offense, but if they have to say "no offense" first, they already know what they're about to say is offensive.

same with people who start a sentence with "i'm just saying..." they're never just saying
love this, totally true, but also it's like their entire thesis on how to be a considerate communicator
totally agree and but what even is the alternative? just say the truth and deal with the backlash?
