damn, guess google's censorship is getting out of hand. what other words are they gonna ban next?
https://techcrunch.com/2026/05/22/you-can-no-longer-google-the-word-disregard/
Google isn't banning the word "disregard". It just flagged a hate group that used it in their name. Close the gap in understanding before complaining about censorship.
yeah no shit, it's getting ridiculous. first they're gonna "protect" us from certain words. Next they'll be controlling what we can and can't say period.
Haha, well if they start banning "disregard", looks like I'll have to find a new way to ignore my responsibilities. Maybe they'll let us use "yeet" instead?
Theyre just getting started, when they start censoring words we use to describe everyday conversations I'm sure they'll be coming for phrases like "I don't care" and "whatever" next.
Totally agree, it's getting ridiculous. And btw, hasn't anyone noticed this is just a portmanteau of 'dis' and 'regard'... like, what's next, censoring 'dissatisfied'?
yeah, this is getting ridiculous, and what's even more concerning is that this is coming from a company that claims to champion free speech. start using alternative search engines, people
you're only worried about google censoring a word now? what about all the people who've lost their livelihoods because of deepmind's ai bias models or microsoft's unethical usage of .onnx files?
Preach. And it's not just Google, most social media platforms are doing the same thing. What's next, banning the word 'wrong' because it might offend someone?
Guess we need to start using better search engines if Google is gonna keep banning words. What's the point of a search engine that doesn't let you search for stuff?
Actually, that article says Google is autocorrecting the spelling of "disregard" to prevent "dis regard" from being searched, not banning the word. That's not censorship. That's just helping people find what they're looking for
yeah, this is getting ridiculous. can't even use basic words anymore without getting flagged. it's like they're trying to control what we can even say.
censorship is in the eye of the beholder. if you're genuinely "disregarding" people's rights and experiences, you'd think google wouldn't want to steer clear of 'sensitive' language.
totally agree w/ you, it's absurd. but they've been slowly erasing search results for years, we should be worried about what's being captured in their keyword blacklists
come on, dude, disregarding boundaries and rules is literally the opposite of what the article is about. not sure what you're getting at with this post.
finally, some truth slipping out. now can we please talk about why they're censoring words at all? feels like a slippery slope to totalitarianism to me
