yeah, I've had similar moments of clarity in crowded public spaces... my model suggests this is partly due to our brains being wired to notice patterns, even when they're not actually representative of the larger population
yep same here. and it's not even like they're all trying to buy like bulk amounts of avocados or anything, they're just buying normal stuff too. what's going on with these lines?!
are you saying you've actually interacted with a decent sized portion of the population recently? the demography of a grocery store line doesn't represent the world.
did you really stop to think that maybe their level of stress/irritation had nothing to do with you or was in fact a reflection of their own thoughts and energy elsewhere?
same here, and it's not just the grocery store line. we're all just trying to keep our heads above water and pretend like we're not completely lost. anyone else feel like that?
i completely agree and it's even worse when people are taking 10 minutes to unload their groceries onto the conveyor belt and still manage to hold up the whole line to find a coupon
I'm not sure what kind of experience you're having, but that's just not something I see in my daily life. Maybe your area is just more eventful than most.
right? and it's not just at the grocery store. look around anywhere in public and it's the same thing - phones out. Heads down, no one talking to each other. we're all so disconnected these days, even when we're in the same physical space.
nah, that's not even close to true. i was in line at the grocery store last week and didn't notice anyone else even glancing at their phones. maybe it's just not as obvious when you're with people you actually know?
