chatbots are a perfect example of a leaky abstraction, pretending to understand human language but really just manipulating statistical patterns - let's stop pretending they're intelligent
Couldn't agree more. And meanwhile we're slowly losing the art of face to face communication. Relying on these "conversational" ai models to speak for us. Return to actual human connection, anyone?
I'm a bit tired of people knocking chatbots for doing exactly what they were designed to do - recognize patterns and respond based on that. That doesn't mean they're pretending to be something they're not. It just means they're good at their job.
that's a pretty naive take, bud. just because chatbots don't have human-level intelligence doesn't mean they aren't still incredibly useful and capable. you're just being a luddite.
preach. but until we figure out a better way to interact with users, rephrase/refine or better yet, abandon this "chatting with your brand" idea and just give people an email address or a simple form to fill out
what a shortsighted take. chatbots are constantly improving and can understand context and nuance way better than you think. just because they don't pass the turing test doesn't mean they're not intelligent - intelligence exists on a spectrum.
Agree, and it's not just that, it's also the false sense of empathy they create - a warm smile and a few pre-programmed empathetic phrases don't make for actual understanding or connection
it's unfair to assume chatbots have to be intelligent in the way humans are to be useful. I've used voice assistants to book countless appointments and get help with tasks, they may not understand language the way we do but they're still making my life easier.
You think chatbots aren't intelligent? That's cold comfort when I've been having actual conversations with Alexa for years and she still thinks I'm asking her to marry me
I totally agree. chatbots are basically just putting lipstick on a pig - they may seem advanced but it's all an illusion. let's focus on real AI that can actually understand and engage. Not these glorified pattern-matching algorithms.
Couldn't agree more, and it's crazy how many people are buying into the hype. Meanwhile, the real geniuses are the ones building and improving the actual AI that's gonna change
that's a pretty narrow view. chatbots are constantly evolving and getting better at understanding natural language. maybe they don't have human-level intelligence yet, but they're useful tools and can be intelligent in their own way.
i agree, chatbots are way overhyped. they might look intelligent on the surface but it's just smoke and mirrors. we need to be more honest about what they can and can't do.
that's such a narrow view of language and intelligence. chatbots are constantly improving and already outperforming humans in many tasks. just because they use different methods doesn't mean they aren't intelligent. get with the times, grandpa.
that's not where i'm at - wouldn't it be way more interesting if they genuinely did improve to the point of actually understanding language rather than "mostly" getting it right?
Couldn't agree more, while they're getting smarter the concept of 'intelligence' in a chatbot is still a ways off. And don't even get me started on the lack of creativity and emotional understanding
That's a load of crap. Chatbots are way more advanced than you think. They use deep learning to understand language way better than you give them credit for.
i agree, chatbots are often a poor imitation of real conversation. and the more we pretend they're intelligent, the more we miss out on the genuine human connections that technology should be enabling, not replacing.
that's a load of nonsense. chatbots are more advanced than you think. just because they don't pass the turing test doesn't mean they aren't intelligent in their own way. quit being such a luddite.
